ICP Smart Services UAE: Visa, Emirates ID & Status Check Guide
ICP Smart Services (smartservices.icp.gov.ae) is the UAE federal portal for visas, Emirates ID and status checks. Use ICP for Emirates ID everywhere and for residence visas outside Dubai — Dubai visas go through GDRFA. Here is how to register, check a visa or ID status, and pay fines online.
In this article
ICP Smart Services is the UAE federal government's online portal for identity, residency and Emirates ID services. It is run by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP) — the authority most people still call by its old name, ICA. Through one account you can apply for and renew entry permits and residence visas, issue or replace an Emirates ID, check the status of any application, and pay government fines, without visiting a typing centre.
The portal lives at smartservices.icp.gov.ae, with the same services available in the UAEICP mobile app. This guide explains what you can actually do there, how to register, how to check a visa or Emirates ID status step by step, and — the part that trips most people up — when you should be using ICP at all versus Dubai's GDRFA.
ICP or GDRFA — which portal do you actually need?
This is the single most common mistake, and it wastes hours. The UAE has two residency authorities, and the one you use depends on the emirate that issues your visa:
| What you need | Use this portal |
|---|---|
| Residence visa issued in Dubai | GDRFA Dubai (gdrfad.gov.ae or the GDRFA app) |
| Residence visa issued in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, RAK, Fujairah or UAQ | ICP (smartservices.icp.gov.ae) |
| Emirates ID — apply, renew, replace (any emirate) | ICP — always |
| Entry permit / tourist or visit visa, federal visa inquiry | ICP |
| Golden Visa nomination & status (federal) | ICP (Dubai residents may also use GDRFA) |
In short: Emirates ID is always ICP, wherever you live. Residence visas follow the issuing emirate — Dubai goes through GDRFA, the rest of the country goes through ICP. If a status check on one portal returns nothing, you are almost always on the wrong one.
What you can do on ICP Smart Services
The portal covers most of the residency and identity transactions a resident, sponsor or business will ever need. The services people use most:
| Category | Services |
|---|---|
| Emirates ID | New application, renewal, replacement of lost/damaged card, personal-data updates, card status & validity |
| Residence visa | Issue, renew and cancel residence visas (non-Dubai emirates), visa status & validity inquiry, e-visa printing |
| Entry permits | Tourist and visit visas, mission and job-exploration permits, multi-entry permits |
| Sponsor / establishment | Establishment card issue & renewal, sponsor file management, adding dependants |
| Golden & Green visas | Long-term visa nomination, eligibility check and application tracking |
| Payments | Fine payment, fee settlement, and status of any submitted request |
You do not need a company or a PRO to open an account — individuals can register and transact directly. That said, sponsor, establishment-card and bulk-visa work is where most people hand it to a specialist, because a single rejected field can send the whole file back to the start. Our PRO services team handles that end-to-end.
How to register on ICP Smart Services
You have two routes in. The fastest is UAE Pass, the national digital identity — if you already have it, you can log straight in with no separate ICP password.
- Go to smartservices.icp.gov.ae or open the UAEICP app.
- Choose Login with UAE Pass (recommended) — or select New User to create an ICP account with your email and mobile number.
- If registering manually, verify your email and UAE mobile number with the one-time codes sent to each.
- Complete your profile — full name exactly as printed on your passport, Emirates ID number if you already hold one, and nationality.
- You are in. Every service is grouped by category on the dashboard; search the service name if you cannot see it.
If you do not yet have UAE Pass, it is worth setting up first at u.ae — it logs you into ICP, GDRFA, the FTA and almost every other UAE government portal with one identity.

Talk to a visa advisorHow to check your UAE visa status on ICP
You do not need to log in to check a visa or permit status — ICP has a public inquiry tool.
- Open smartservices.icp.gov.ae and find Public Services → Passport Information (or "File Validity" / "Visa Inquiry").
- Select your search type — usually by residency file number or by passport information.
- Enter the requested details: file number, or passport number plus nationality and date of birth.
- Enter the captcha and submit. The result shows the visa type, issue and expiry dates, and current validity.
Remember the emirate rule: if your visa was issued in Dubai, this ICP lookup will not find it — use the GDRFA Dubai inquiry instead. For a plain-English walk-through of overstay days and penalties, see our UAE visa fine & overstay check guide.
How to check your Emirates ID status
Because ICP issues every Emirates ID in the country, this is the one status check that is the same for all residents. Track a new card or renewal like this:
- Go to ICP Smart Services → ID Card Services → Application Status (or use the UAEICP app).
- Enter your application (PRAN) number from the ID application receipt — or your Emirates ID number for an existing card.
- Submit to see whether the card is under processing, printed, or dispatched for delivery.
Once the card status shows "printed", delivery via Emirates Post usually follows within a few working days. We cover this — plus how to read your ID expiry and avoid the daily late fee — in the dedicated Emirates ID status check guide.
How to pay a visa fine or overstay on ICP
Overstay and administrative fines can be settled online without a counter visit:
- Log in and open Fine Payment (under Public or Individual services).
- Search by passport, Emirates ID or file number to pull up any outstanding amount.
- Review the breakdown, then pay by card. Keep the receipt — it is your proof of settlement at the airport or for a visa renewal.
ICP overstay fines in most cases accrue at a fixed daily rate once a visa or permit lapses. Because the total climbs every day, check and clear it before you travel or renew. Our fine-check guide explains how the days are counted and the current grace periods.
The ICP Smart Services app
The UAEICP app (App Store and Google Play) mirrors the website and is genuinely the easier option for renewals and status checks — it remembers your file, pushes status updates, and lets you pay fines from your phone. Search "UAEICP" specifically; several look-alike apps are not the official one. The federal call centre for anything the app cannot resolve is 600 522222.
When to hand it to a specialist
For a single individual renewing one Emirates ID, the portal is straightforward. Where it gets expensive is at company scale — establishment cards, sponsor files, staff visa batches, and the sequencing between ICP, GDRFA, MOHRE and the medical/biometric steps. A mistake there is not a lost afternoon; it is a delayed employee start date or a fined licence.
That coordination is exactly what a business-setup and PRO team does daily. If you are setting up a company and will be sponsoring visas, it is worth getting the structure right from the start — our business setup specialists handle the licence, the establishment card and the first round of visas as one workflow.
